Jason DeRulo

Derulo was born September 21, 1989 and is a native of Miami, Florida. Derulo has been performing since the age of five and wrote his first song titled "Crush On You" at the age of eight. Derulo spent his youth studying opera, theater, and ballet. He attended Dillard High School for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and is a graduate of the New York American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Lil Wayne was one of the associated acts to help Jason DeRulo get his singing abilities off of the ground.
At the age of 12, Derulo met his manager and has since been writing songs for artists like Cassie, Pitbull, and Keyshia Cole among others since he was 16 and intent on becoming a solo performer. After attending performing arts schools and honing his talents as a singer and dancer, Derulo won the grand prize on the 2006 season finale of the TV show "Showtime at the Apollo." Derulo was discovered by music producer J.R. Rotem, who signed him to his record label Beluga Heights and Warner Bros. Records.
Derulo broke into the scene with his single "Whatcha Say" It was released in June 2009 by Beluga Heights/Warner Bros. It is produced by J.R. Rotem with additional production by Fuego. It heavily samples the Imogen Heap song "Hide And Seek". It has been released to radio. On the issue date of August 30, 2009, the song debuted at number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is currently at number two. As of October 6, 2009, the digital single sold 775,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
